Christmas at Sea Get onboard for seafarers!
Few of us know what it is like to work at sea, to be lonely away from family esp. at holiday times, to be at sea for weeks with nowhere to go esp. if things aren’t going well and to find yourself in unfamiliar places.
It was Jesus who said Matthew 25:35,36 “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me a drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.”
Responding to Jesus words and to the plight of seafarers who find themselves in Vancouver over Christmas the Mission is putting together Christmas gift bags that will be given to seafarers.
Items that we would welcome include:
toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss, soap, shower gel and shampoo, socks, toques (home made or bought), chocolate, souvenirs like magnets and key chains. No scarfs as they are dangerous onboard.
An income tax receipt will be given for any cash/cheque donations.
You can also donate online by going to 'Donate' on this website and choosing 'Christmas Appeal'.
Please call ahead if donations are to be left at the Mission to Seafarers located at 401 E. Waterfront Rd (over the flyover on Main St and turn left and to the end). Please have Photo ID to show security.
Deadline is the 1st Friday in December.
If items are to be picked up please call us at 604 253 4421 or email m2svancouver@gmail.com
Thank you
CHRISTMAS CARDS AT SEA
Christmas at Sea gifts are even better with cards. Anyone can send a card for seafarers and we will happily add them to one of the gifts we will be giving out. Would your school or Sunday school class be interested to prepare cards for seafarers? Or you can do it individually or with a small group.
Here’s what to do:
Cards can either be made personally by hand, or you can use standard pre-made Christmas cards, and add a note to them. Notes should express wishes for a merry, joyful, blessed Christmas season, and can include assurance of your prayers for the seafarer and for his or her family. And you can thank the seafarers for their hard work that helps us and our country in so many ways. Be creative and say what comes from your heart. The message doesn’t need to be long – keep it simple and meaningful.
You can share personally and express that “I” keep you in prayer. But be sure to not share any personal contact information – at most share only your first name. Or children can share that they are part of a school or Sunday school class, or generally where they are from, but do not share more than that.
Send or drop off the cards to the address below and aim to have them arrive on or before Wednesday 10th December 2025
