Lent 2 Sunday March 1st ‘Journey through Lent’

John 3:1-17 Nicodemus- Faith and Trust

The season of Lent invites us to take time to reflect on our lives and ask ourselves how we can make the world a better place, including our relationships.

The story of Nicodemus in John’s gospel account is a cautionary note that faith is not about certainty, having all the answers but being able to live with the tension, having an open mind and watching for signs.

Nicodemus did not understand Jesus immediately, but he was willing to watch, wait, listen and learn. He was there to prepare Jesus body for burial. He lived with the tension of everyday life, without all the answers.

For seafarers’ life onboard can be irregular and unpredictable such as the weather, cargo (un)loading.  They must trust each other, the captain and that they will make it home safely one day to their loved ones.

In our search for certainties in life, we need to let go of the natural desire to always have answers, to always be sure and trust that with God all things are possible and look for signs of God at work in the world.
