I have just finished reading a book with my youngest son called ‘Hello Universe’ by Erin Entrada Kelly in which a boy called Virgil gets stuck down a Well because of a bully, to be rescued some time later. The experience changed Virgil so that he was able to stand up to the bully next time and talk to a girl he wanted to be friends with. Virgil was able to stand tall and say ‘hello universe’
In my local church at the end of February we recalled in the gospel of Matthew 17:1-13 the ‘Transfiguration of Jesus’, how Jesus was changed, transformed.
In the sermon that morning the priest asked us all to take a moment to consider times in our lives when we have been changed, transformed. For a follower of Jesus as was the case in the life of Jesus, everyday will present opportunities for change, for transformation.
As Christians with God’s help we can all be changed, if we are open to God showing us the way, to as the voice of God on the mountain top said to the disciples of Jesus “this is my son , whom I love, with whom I am well pleased, listen to him”.
God helping us with the choices we all have to make, by engaging with and seeking to make a difference in the lives of others, by learning and growing from the struggles in life.
To be able like Virgil to be lifted up and to say ‘hello universe.
