Easter 2026   Matthew 28:1-10 ‘Afraid yet filled with joy’ vs8

The world in 2026 is in a state of chaos, with people living with uncertainty and fear

Matthew chapter 28 reminds us that God has a plan in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus.

After Jesus’ resurrection an angel of the Lord with confidence and purpose announced to the women, with knowledge of their fear and confusion “He is not here, he has risen.. Come and see the place where he lay.. he is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, Now I have told you” Mt 28:7

As the women ran to tell the disciples Jesus met them and consoled, comforted and gave them instructions to pass on to the other disciples.

Seafarers live in an unpredictable world, with uncertainty, a life of ‘maybes’, maybe I will get home in this port, maybe the weather will get better, maybe I won’t have to spend most of my vacation in training,maybe the missile won't hit the ship.

To them and all of us God offers reliability – that the promise of salvation was kept, “just as he said”, the words of the angel to the women.

That despite everything, God and God’s plan prevails, is trustworthy and true and God in love entrusts that plan to you and I to share the good news,  as his followers, to do ‘just as he said’ .
