Vancouver Fraser Port Authority will be hosting World Maritime Day at the Port of Vancouver, an event to celebrate the local maritime community and educate the public on port operations and initiatives.

World Maritime Day was established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), with celebrations held internationally to recognize the importance of shipping safety, maritime security and the marine environment.

The theme for this year is "New technologies for greener shipping."

The actual World Maritime Day is recognized each year by the IMO on the last Thursday of September, and the community event at Canada Place takes place on the Saturday to encourage greater public attendance.

A free, family-friendly event will be hosted at Canada Place from 12-5pm offering views of the port infrastructure around the Burrard inlet. Activities will include a traditional Indigenous welcome, musical performances, costumed interpreters, an on-water boat demonstration, exhibitor booths, and the opportunity to learn about Canada’s largest port inside the Port of Vancouver Discovery Centre.

Drop by the Mission exhibit and say hello.
